Where has The Entity gone? |

Sometime in 2002 a friend and I were scouring various corners of the internet for some quality music from new bands. We came across quite a bit of third rate material (as usual) until we stumbled upon a promo EP by a new Norwegian band called “The Entity“. The band name wasn’t even promising (wish they’d get a real name..) but we were blown away when we hit play. The songs were miles beyond anything we’d come across. I’d go even further and say it may be one of the better promo EPs in this style I’ve heard. If I were to describe The Entity in one word, it would be LUSH. They mix acoustic and distorted guitars with violins in the most tasteful manner possible with wonderfully executed emotional clean vocals. The music is rich with melody, acoustics cascading into distorted rhythms which then flow into vocals that soar over violin and clean guitar.
I strongly dislike comparing bands to other bands. I think it’s lazy. I think it’s not fair to the band. Every musician is influenced by other musicians. People often compare a band to whichever other band they happen to be familiar with, even if it’s totally inaccurate. But I’ll say this — if you are a fan of Katatonia or Anathema, you will want to check this song out.
Strangely The Entity has disappeared from my radar. I thought they would surely be very successful once securing a contract (which they eventually did with Rage of Achilles). They never released anything else (that I’m aware of) and even their web site is offline. They were a very young band, in their early twenties or late teens, so perhaps each went their separate ways. That’d be too bad if they are indeed defunct, as I had great anticipation for what they could do on a full length album.

I wish I could give you infos about The Entity but I’m just as puzzled as you. I use to be in contact with one of the members. I’ll try to get news for you. The Entity was also one of the underground band I followed, watching their album that never came. I even thought it was recorded but was never released…Let me recommend you another good stuff from Bergen, Norway. The band is called Lorraine, they sound very similar to Kent in fact. Their first LP, ‘The perfect Cure’ was really good and maybe you’ll enjoy them. Have a listen at: http://www.mic.music...

I got an email from Anders Vaage awhile back ago:
“hopefully we’ll have an album ready this autumn. It will be quite different from the Salt EP I think; much heavier, more dynamic and closer to the sound of bands like A Perfect Circle, Tool and norwegian alternative band Seigmen, rather than Katatonia, Opeth and Anathema. Atmospheric, mystical and dreaming, but also very raw and aggressive!”

Lull: Another great suggestion with Lorraine! The vocalist totally reminds me of Kent, music is a bit more electronic. I’ll probalby do a post in the future about them. Not much online about them, a good find indeed.
Alejandro: Cool but sort of funny comment. I think The Entity and Katatonia already share quite a bit musically with bands like APC/Tool. Not sure how I feel about being “closer” to that sound. Must wait and see..
